WHAT ARE THE DATES FOR NEXT YEAR 2016 MUD RUN?
Well, thanks for asking. We have set the date for next year Saturday JUNE 17, 2017. It will be the 6th Annual 5K Viking Challenge and 10K Viking Crusade all on one day.
WHAT DO I GET?
- Entrance into the event grounds, a Viking Challenge and Crusade, bib, timing chip and runners packet.
- Event participation pride!!!
IS IT SAFE?
Well, there is always risk of injury involved with everything. Even just simply walking outside can be dangerous. The Viking Challenge has mud, uneven trails, obstacles, risk of fall, and tripping, and getting wet, muddy, dirty, scratched, pulling a muscle, breaking a leg, falling off an obstacle, etc. Be careful. This is a family friendly event and safety measures have been taken to protect and make the run as safe as possible, however, there are 13 challenging obstacles, water, mud, rocks, tripping hazards, uneven ground, slippery grass, and many other ways that you could get injured. You must be careful and understand your own limitations when attempting an obstacle or participating in the event. Small children MUST be accompanied by an adult during the entire course. It is a parental decision to allow children under 18 to participate and children on the course who are less than 12 MUST have a parent or legal guardian with them at all times.
Participants and spectators enter and participate at your own risk. Every effort has been taken to make it a safe, fun day for everyone. There will be a medical tent for first aid along with paramedics and an ambulance on site throughout the event.
Para-Corp medical management will be on site coordinating the medical teams in case of an emergency and we will have an ambulance crew available for medical needs and transportation if necessary.
CAN WE COMPETE AS A TEAM?
Yes. Teams are encouraged to register. We have reduced the price for all participants now so we have eliminated the team discount. You can however register as a team, join a team or create a new team. Click YES to the question of join a team and choose the team that you are joining from the drop down menu. If you do not see your team name or it has not been created yet, you can create one. Team costumes are encouraged and an award will be given for the best team costume. Teams can help each other through the course, encourage each other to keep going, raise money for their cause by getting sponsors for their team and getting pledges for the charities.
Teams do not receive a TEAM time. Each individuals on the team receive their own time. Race results for all individuals will be posted on-line after the race. Compete as a team, work together to get your team through the course, or run individually. Raise additional money for your charity as a team and then make that contribution to Lake Region Cancer Center or Dough4Joe at the end of the race day. You can also setup your own photo opportunity and contribution time with either of the organizations and your team to receive recognition for your efforts and support. It's all about the challenge, the mud, the sweat, the fun and the money raised for our charities!
I AM NOT IN GOOD SHAPE CAN I DO THIS?
People of all ages will be participating in The Viking Challenge and Crusade. If your not in good shape, maybe you should train a little so you don't hurt yourself. Also, it's just more healthy to be in shape! Any ability level can walk or run in the event. You can stop and take a rest during the course if you want. Remember, we have medical personnel available throughout the day but it is a good idea to be in shape for this challenge. There are no rules except that you must stay on the course and you assume all risk while on the property.
WHAT IF I CAN NOT SWIM?
Don't go in the water then! Although there is some mud and water, there is NO swimming necessary on the 5K unless you go off the track on your own and jump in the lake! It’s not allowed, and again it is at your own risk. If you go into the water, then you should know how to swim. There is however some swimming in the 10K. If you can not swim, then again...don't go in the water.
What is Packet Pickup?
Participants can pick up their runners bag when they “check in”. Your bag includes your race bib with safety pins, and some extra “goodies” to keep and use while in Fergus Falls and Otter Tail County.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
- Your photo ID (required at packet pick-up).
- A change of clothes.
- Cash for food and drink. There will be an ATM cash machine onsite too!
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
If it is cold wear something warm, or if it is hot then wear something not so hot. Should be a nice June day so plan accordingly. After you are done running, have some dry clean clothes to change into for the music and watching the rest of the runners. You can wear a team T-shirt, running shirt, uniform, creative costumes, or anything you don’t mind getting dirty or muddy.
Running shoes or shoes with good support that can get wet, muddy, dirty, and if you choose, donated your shoes on-site when finished. We will have a shoe drop area for marked where they will be cleaned and donated.
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
It will be a blast if it does, and even better if it doesn’t. Either way, you're getting muddy, dirty, wet, and tired if you participate. Spectators may want to have rain gear. Rain gear is available for sale at the event. Bring sun screen, and bug spray I suppose.
ARE THERE SHOWERS AVAILABLE AFTER THE RACE?
Yes, there are "warm, hot, sometime cool, and cold showers with male and female shower rooms available to clean up and shower off after the run.
WILL THERE BE DRINKING WATER ALONG THE WAY?
Yes, drinking water for particianpts has been provided by one of our sponsors - Culligan of Elbow Lake. It will be available along the course at designated water/first aid stations. We will have volunteers stationed at each medical station with tables of water available to runners and walkers. First aid personnel will be at these areas or race personnel will be able to contact our first aid folks if needed.
CAN YOU MAIL IN YOUR ENTRY?
No. I suppose you could however we don't accept them in the mail and I'm not sure where you would mail them. All registration is done online. Follow the Registration Link Please. Thank you.
CAN KIDS COMPETE?
For participants under 18 years old on race day, your parent or legal guardian MUST be present or sign your waiver and release for you. Any children less than 10 years old MUST have their parent or legal guardian accompany them on the course at all times and may only run at the "Family Run".
We have plenty of room for pre-registered participants. Register early. Please check back if the time slot or race is FULL. We may increase numbers of runners and add race times if needed.

If the race is not FULL by race day there will be onsite registrations accepted. With on-site registration there is no guarantee that late registrations (after September 1st) will receive anything except a runners bib and access to a race time on the course.
